ISSUES

Background Check Every Year for All Coaches and Assistants

All coaches and assistant coaches need to complete a Criminal Background check. The form is available at any police station. Take our official form to the police station in case they ask, this should be a free service. Fill out a criminal background check form, submit their form with ours to the police department and the results will be sent to LMFA executive solely for the purpose of complying with Softball BC Rules. Batting Cage

Signup sheet and access key is in the 'Bags Room' between concession and ladies washroom. CLOSED Sep - Early March

USAGE: First come, First served, ONE HOUR MAXIMUM usage if others are waiting. Time starts on the hour, not when you get there. Please cleanup anything and everything before you leave.

After each season, coaches provide a general evaluation for each player relative to other players. From this evaluation, players for each division are ranked for the draft. The draft is used to spread the talent as evenly as possible amongst all teams of the same division. DRAFT RULES (PDF)

Player and Team Equipment

Each coach will be issued a standard set of equipment for their team age group.

Equipment Distribution: Will be done in March, after draft and before season starts. Any other issues contact the head coach, Greg  coach at lmfa

Coaches MUST return their field lock key with the equipment bag. Please string it onto your equipment bag securely. Please return uniform shirts and pants in plastic bags to our uniform center and all equipment, including the lock key, to our equipment locker at the end of the season.

Fund Raising Options

You and your team are STRONGLY URGED to play in as many outside tournaments as you can. IF you win a tournament your team may be eligible to play in an area, city, provincial or Canada wide Tournament. LMFA does not directly provide funding for teams to travel or for accomodation and meals. We are working on getting sponsorships to help defer some of the costs but we compete with all the other sports for the same limited funds. Ask the parents and other coaches what has been done on other teams and in the past. Softball BC may provide a small travel allowance for some teams. Your only option is to do fund raising activities. Common fund raising activities are car wash at any gas station in the area, bottle drives around various neighborhoods, 50-50 draws in the park during tournaments, meat draws at various pubs around the area and general contributions by parents and friends. Corporate support is also an option and if you can get it for your club from a company you know, excellent! We are always looking for corporate sponsors to provide tax deductible funds for any and all of our teams to benefit from. Sponsorship can include recognition banners, awards, tournaments named for the company, signs at the ball parks and more. Contact our sponsorship executive for more details.

Rainouts

RAINOUTS / Unable to Play - call the other coach as soon as possible! 

Rain Out - if the sign at the park entry says Park Field closed - STAY OFF THE DIAMONDS. USE OF CLOSED FIELD WILL RESULT IN FINES AND LOSS OF USE. THIS INCLUDES PRACTICES AS WELL AS GAMES.

Tournaments

LMFA pays for your team to play in the local tournament for all "C" level teams. Any other tournaments are the responsibility of the team. Fundraising is up to the team.

Coaches MUST sign up for Ladner tournaments or you will not be included

UNWRITTEN RULES OF TOURNAMENTS FAIR PLAY

'Mercy Rule' can only be invoked by the losing team's coach. NOT THE UMP. Ump is ALWAYS right. Please report any umpire issues AFTER the game to our UIC who will follow up on your request.

Uniforms

Uniforms are distributed before the regular season starts. Coaches should make a list of players and their approximate sizes if the players know what fits them. There will be an opportunity to change some of the uniforms.

Distribution :  Hawthorne Park!

After your last game on this final weekend tournament, please put all uniforms (shirts and pants) into one plastic (garbage) bag for your team and return them to the Uniform area on the final day of your games. Players do NOT have to return socks and visors. You do not have to wash the uniforms. Deposit cheques will be returned (or destroyed if you prefer).

Umpire Late

If an umpire does not show up, within 10 minutes after the game starts, improvise until they do show up. If a parent volunteers, give them all the protection you can find! Remember, our umpires are young like our players. They too are 'learning' every game. So support your umpires .. or they may not return and you will have to take their place!
